Shipping to Nigeria? Know What NOT to Send
At Diaspora Parcel Logistics, your safety, compliance, and smooth shipping experience are our top priorities. Certain items cannot be shipped due to international regulations, safety concerns, or US government restrictions. Shipping prohibited items can lead to confiscation, fines, delays, or legal penalties.
To ensure compliance, all shipments are reviewed against the following:
- IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) – Governs air freight.
- International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code – Governs sea freight.
- US Government Export Control Laws – Embargoed or restricted goods.
Please review this list before you ship a prohibited item.
- Explosives and Flammable Items
Items that can ignite, explode, or cause fire hazards are strictly prohibited.
Examples include:
- Fireworks, firecrackers, and pyrotechnics
- Ammunition and firearms (without proper licenses)

While Diaspora Parcel Logistics strives to safely handle packages, the following are prohibited:

- Obscene, Illegal, or Embargoed Items

- Government, police or military boots & uniforms
- Animal skins, furs, and ivory
- Items embargoed for export to Nigeria or any other country
- Unlicensed Alcohol and Tobacco Products
Shipping unlicensed alcohol or tobacco products is restricted.
This includes:
- Unlicensed alcohol shipments
- Unlicensed cigarettes, cigars, or smokeless tobacco
- Vape Pens (electronic cigarettes), vape juice and related accessories
- Shisha bongs
- Other Items Restricted by Airlines or Shipping Lines
Even if an item is not on the list above, carriers may prohibit it.
Examples include:
- Hoverboards and electric bikes over 100Wh
- Certain sporting goods (archery, firearms accessories)
- Adult/sex toys
- Drones/UAVs
- Items considered hazardous by US carriers or Nigerian authorities

Items That Can Be Shipped Under Certain Conditions
While we prioritize safety and compliance, there are some items that can be shipped under specific conditions. These items require careful handling, proper packaging, and adherence to airline, maritime, and regulatory guidelines.
Shipping these items is allowed only if all conditions are met. Failure to comply may result in refusal, repackaging, or additional charges.
- Perfume, Cologne, Body Sprays, and Aftershave
- Must be authentic, new, and factory sealed.
- Counterfeit or low-quality products cannot be shipped.
- Diaspora Parcel Logistics will verify the quality and origin before shipping.
Note: Due to flammable content, perfumes are packaged in accordance with IATA and IMDG regulations, and may be separated from other cargo.
- Dietary Supplements, Protein Powders, and Workout Supplements
- Must be factory sealed, unopened, and unused.
- Only products with verifiable origin and labeling can be shipped.
Packaging: Some supplements may require separation from other items due to airline or customs regulations.
- Fragile Items (Glass, Ceramics, Porcelain)
- Can be shipped at your own risk.
- Packages will be cushioned and handled carefully, but Diaspora Parcel Logistics cannot be liable for breakage in transit.
- Customers are encouraged to use additional protective packaging when possible.
- Items Containing Lithium Batteries
- Must comply with airline safety regulations.
- Will be separated from general cargo such as clothing, electronics, and cosmetics.
- Ensure batteries are installed in devices or properly packaged, and comply with international shipping limits.
General Compliance & Packaging
- Diaspora Parcel Logistics reserves the right to package goods as necessary in accordance with the laws and regulations of the country of export, transit (if any), and import.
